This volume is a proceedings of a workshop-symposium organized by the four editors. The meeting was held in East Africa from the 9th to the 19th of September 1973. This symposium was entitled "Stratigraphy, Paleoecology, and Evolution in the Lake Rudolf Basin" (now Lake Turkana Basin). It contains 50 chapters by noted authorities in the field.
