Synopsis

[Read by Michael Edwards]

***#10 on National Review's List of the 100 Best Nonfiction Books of the Century***

Milton Friedman argues that the appropriate role of competitive capitalism occurs when the majority of our economic activity flows through private enterprise within a free market environment. This is unequivocally the most effective device for achieving economic freedom, as well as the necessary condition in which political freedom can be attained. Friedman's arguments are positively bold, enlightening, and impacting. Among the specific topics he addresses are ''The Control of Money,'' ''Fiscal Policy,'' ''Capitalism and Discrimination,'' and ''Social Welfare Measures.''

From the Inside Flap

Selected by the Times Literary Supplement as one of the "hundred most influential books since the war"

How can we benefit from the promise of government while avoiding the threat it poses to individual freedom? In this classic book, Milton Friedman provides the definitive statement of his immensely influential economic philosophy—one in which competitive capitalism serves as both a device for achieving economic freedom and a necessary condition for political freedom. The result is an accessible text that has sold well over half a million copies in English, has been translated into eighteen languages, and shows every sign of becoming more and more influential as time goes on.

About the Author

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A very good copy in a very good, mylar protected DJ; 1st edition with no additional printings listed. Book has a small amount of slight toning to the top part of the first three pages where a business card or piece of paper was attached by a paper clip. Removal of the paper clip caused a small tear to the top edge of the half title page and left two rust colored paperclip indentations to the top edges of the half title and title page. Small, faint date stamp from October 1962 on front endpaper. Text and binding are tight with no writing or names, and the book would be a near fine to fine copy except for the paperclip flaw listed above. The DJ is not price clipped with a small amount of wear and chipping to the spine ends, and no spine fading. 8vo., 202 pages. Seller Inventory # 28133
