The rise of the Arab world and China are part of the same story, once trading partners via the Silk Road. It isn't a coincidence that Arab traders have returned to China at the same time that China is fast regaining its share of the global economy. This is a breakthrough account of how China is spurring growth in the Arab world.

Ben Simpfendorfer?s The New Silk Road: How a Rising Arab World is Turning Away from the West and Rediscovering China offers a compelling exploration of the reemerging economic and cultural ties between China and the Arab world. Drawing on his extensive experience as a former Chief China Economist and his fluency in Arabic and Chinese, Simpfendorfer provides an insider?s perspective on the shifting dynamics that are redefining global trade and influence. The book delves into the historical context of Sino-Arab relations, highlighting how ancient trade routes are being revitalized in the modern era. Simpfendorfer examines key areas such as energy partnerships, sovereign wealth investments, and the strategic expansion of Chinese enterprises into Middle Eastern markets. He also addresses the cultural and societal implications of this renewed engagement, including the role of media and language in shaping perceptions and fostering connections. Through a blend of macroeconomic analysis and on-the-ground insights, The New Silk Road sheds light on the factors driving the Arab world?s pivot towards China.
