Review:
Unless you are keenly interested in both opera and gay and lesbian issues (the latter from a highly politicized point of view), you may find this volume more annoying than enlightening. A few of the contributors have good points to make, but most belabor the obvious or even invent issues where none would seem to exist. Still, while the quality of the essays is uneven, there's enough here that those who live and breathe opera will find it at least worth skimming.
