Produced in association with the Musée Marmottan Monet, this stunning collection presents the life and art of Claude Monet, a leading light of the Impressionist movement. More than 12 rare, removable facsimile documents—from sketches and posters to baptismal and marriage certificates—highlight the development of his work and give insights into his influences, interests, and personal world. The facsimile documents include:
- The registration of Monet's baptism in 1841
- A poster for probably the first exhibition in which Monet took part in 1858
- An early caricature by Monet
- Pages from one of the books of Japanese artwork collected by Monet
- The registration of Monet's marriage to his first wife, Camille
- An invoice of sales to Durand-Ruel, Monet's principal art dealer
- A booklet of preparatory drawings by Monet of Rouen Cathedral
- Monet's letter to the French Minister of State offering Edouard Manet's painting Olympia to the State

About the Author
Michael Howard is Senior Lecturer in history of art and design at the Metropolitan University in Manchester, England. His previous books include Gauguin (Dorling Kindersley) and Impressionism (Carlton). He has also contributed to Art Quarterly, Art Newspaper, and the Times Literary Supplement.
