Synopsis

Kierkegaard's renowned excursion into literature is the gripping narrative of a man who explores his own sense of detachment by deliberately arousing the passion of a young society girl whom he first sees fleetingly across the street from him. Since it was first published over 150 years ago, The Diary of a Seducer has been the grist for many a philosopher and critic's mill.

About the Author

One of the definitive Western philosophers of the nineteenth century, Soren Kierkegaard was born in Copenhagen in 1813 and studied theology, philosophy, and literature, devoting himself to a solitary life of writing soon after the death of his father in 1838. His philosophical, literary, and mystical writings have had a lasting influence, foreshadowing Existentialism and many contemporary philosophies.

Review

"A thinker of wit and elegance, his ability to live with paradox and his desire to think about individuals as free have given him great purchase in the modern world and he is known as the father of Existentialism." - Melvyn Bragg

"Pushkin Press’s smartly-presented new edition makes an appealing introduction to his work, complete with an afterword by the translator." - The Observer
