Although not marked in any way, this copy comes from the personal collection of Otto Penzler, legendary editor and founder of the Mysterious Press, an award-winning icon in the genre. 8"x5.5", 218 pages. Satisfaction Guaranteed. Somewhere under London, beneath the subways and the sewers, is a grey concrete-lined complex known in security circles as "the catacombs". It is here that Jacob Asher, suave, arrogant Israeli agent on loan to the British, is assigned to find Joseph Carrell, a Russian counter-spy recently sprung from a British jail. As Asher heads for Paris and Dossier IX, the computerized adjunct of French counter-espionage services, the pace picks up considerably. Within twenty-four hours he has fended off a stunning Arab prostitute who lured him into a compromising position and tried to stab him; he has met Minou, the beautiful French girl who will be working with him; and they have stumbled upon a serious leak in French atomic weapons security. From an Arab-run brothel in the Ile de France the search moves quickly to Zurich, then to the secret center of French missile warfare the atomic plants of the Rhone valley, where they begin to realize that the implications of Carrell's disappearance are far broader than anyone ever suspected. Tinged with sadists, necrophiliacs, homosexuals, and masochists, this is swift, bizarre, mind-blowing spy novel that does not let up in intensity until its shocking and unexpected climax. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Seller Inventory # meg78
