Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Small format hardcover with quarter red cloth and grey marbled paper boards. Nice production. A commonplace book of quotes and extracts culled from Fane's favorite literature. The Honourable Julian Charles Fane (1927 - 2009) was an aristocrat with private means who nevertheless dedicated himself to the life of a writer and produced over 40 well-regarded works. He was hardly, however, a household name - maybe because he was a little ahead of his time; and not in a good way. Perhaps he'd have met with a wider audience if he'd started to publish in the 1920's or 30's alongside Henry Green, Evelyn Waugh and Aldous Huxley, instead of the late 50's when he looked a trifle outdated next to the Angry Young Men of that literary decade. A fine copy with fine, clear glassine dust jacket, complete with original bar code label. Seller Inventory # 000197
