Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. An earlyish work from Peter Ackroyd, and one which seems to be largely, and unjustly, overlooked these days. Perhaps it was just a tad before its time? The literary trick of basing a novel on real life characters and making something of a mystery from it has certainly been a more popular device in recent years, but back in the eighties Mr Ackroyd was in full swing with it. Great novel. As is usual with this book (and - shamefully - with so many Hamish Hamilton books of this era) the text block is printed on such crappy paper that it has browned, especially on edges. There is one dog-eared and slightly crinkled leaf, but otherwise a very good copy indeed in very good, slightly rubbed, price-clipped dust jacket. Seller Inventory # 000483
