This book represents the findings and recommendations of the President's Commission on Privatization which viewed selected government programs--ranging from air traffic control to urban mass transit--to determine if any could be provided more efficiently by the private sector. From its study, "the Commission found potential for improved efficiency, quality of service, or both, to be derived from increased private sector participation in the provision of services," in all of the areas investigated. Its recommendations include the contracting out of prison operations, the sale of federal loans, and the use of vouchers in educational and Medicare programs. Most, if not all, recommendations are controversial. Recommended.
