YA This absolutely marvelous book explains everything students ever wanted to know about American diplomacy. It is arranged in chronological order, from Revolutionary beginnings, up to and including Reagan's policies in 1983. Each chapter is subdivided by major events. Jones has tried to give a balanced view, both pro and con, of American diplomacy. There are many black-and-white photographs, reproductions of newspaper articles and 25 maps which complement and illustrate the text. There is a bibliography at the end of each chapter. A detailed index of people, places, nicknames and events supports the text. While this is not a source that anyone would want to read from cover to cover, it is an excellent resource for high-school students doing reports on different aspects of American history.
