In the 1960s LeWitt began investigating the cube--a form that remained an essential element of his artistic language throughout his career. But in 1973, the artist started to literally take the cube apart. The Conceptual artist's exploration places emphasis on the idea rather than the art object, and so LeWitt asked: how many variations could be created by systematically subtracting parts from an open cube? For months he painstakingly worked through the artistic process and idea, and concluded with 122 variations of incomplete open cubes. The sculpture Incomplete Open Cube 6/19 represents the nineteenth variation of a six-edged open cube. VG exlib with stickers on spine and inside rear cover, stamps on endpages.
