9780273614548: Project Management and Project Network Techniques

Synopsis

This new text builds on the foundations of the highly respected Critical Path Analysis and other Project Network Techniques. Written in a user-friendly style, the material has been enlarged to include a substantial treatment of the problems of the management of capital projects. Considerable care has been taken to avoid any particular industry orientation. The text is divided into two parts, neither requiring the reader to have any prior knowledge and each can be used separately, if desired. The first is concerned with project management. After dealing with features differentiating project management from other forms of management, the four phases of a project - conception, development, realisation and termination - are covered. Separate chapters discuss organisation, planning, quality, procurement, risk management, project examination, time control and cash control. The second comprehensively treats all aspects of the planning techniques which come together under the name Project Network Techniques. An invaluable chapter, 'Some Practical Considerations', distils the authors' experiences over many years. Questions on each part and a comprehensive glossary of terms can be found in appendices.
