Preface

This book is a companion to E-Business to the power of l2. It will give you the opportunity to see the 12 principles of networked business in action. It seeks to bring a wide array of material in networked business into focus and context. It also shows you how networked businesses work together in a living ecosystem.

In the introduction, we explain in simple and clear terms the impact of the internet on economics, finance, the law and education, inasmuch as it inevitably impacts on all businesses and organizations. After all, now that we are all connected, actions and reactions in an economy will grow ever faster, from one ecosystem to another, from one organization to another. We will introduce you to the concept of ecosystem and the 12 principles and then discuss the latter in a separate overview.

To best illustrate the ecosystem concept and its key principles in action, we interviewed 48 organizations over a six-month period, then selected 24 that would best convey the message from our journey. To make the book easy to read and use, we have broken down each chapter or principle as follows: statement of the principle two case studies, which include: a supplier profile an interview with supplier principle in action with customer executive summary of the principle.

We have structured it so that you can read the chapters in any order you wish, but we would recommend that you do not miss out the introduction and conclusion. In the conclusion, we provide a message to shareholders, employees, businesses, consumers and government and we leave you a signpost of where we are heading next.

This book is not prescriptive. Read it, absorb it, and reconfigure it for your business.
