Synopsis
This book is a complete guide to the museum collections in the US and Canada. More than 60 collections of textiles are reviewed, which encompass holdings ranging from exotic Peruvian handweaving and Indonesian batiks to the pioneering work of contemporary designers such as Sheila Hicks and Jack Lenor Larson. The purpose of this book is to present basic design themes, culled from cultures all over the world, that are adaptable to today's textiles. Patterns have been chose for their visual impact. The book contains a detailed survey of each collection and an evaluation of its holdings, conveniently arranged in alphabetical order by city. There are extensive essays, over 400 photographs, many in full colour, arranged chronologically and by country of origin. There is a full index, covering both the text and the photographs.
