Synopsis
Written by Kenzaburo Oe, a winner of Nobel Prize in literature, based on his personal experience, this novel is the milestone of his literature and an impressive record of seeking salvation. It tells the story of Bird, a father caught in the ethical dilemma due to the birth of his disabled son. He dreamed to take the adventure tour in Africa and was afraid to be troubled by the baby but dared not to kill the baby. Therefore, he chose to escape. Bird left his newborn in the hospital and wished the baby die of asthenia while he stayed with his lover Himiko and paralyzed himself with sex and alcohol.
