The original Globe theater, for which Shakespeare wrote most of his greatest plays, was burnt down in a fire in the 17th century. It is now being rebuilt on the original site in London and will be completed by 1992. For the first time, modern playgoers will be able to experience Shakespeare's plays under the same conditions as an Elizabethan audience. This fascinating book brings the original Globe to life: the audiences, how the plays were performed, the history of Shakespeare's company, and more. It also tells the story of how the long dream of rebuilding the Globe has finally come to fruition, giving a detailed description of the new theater complex, which will include exhibitions that re-create London's Elizabethan history.
