Synopsis
This popular Cassell series, intended chiefly for teachers and trainee teachers, places strong emphasis on practice but at the same time incorporates the latest research in the field. In England and Wales the National Curriculum has pointed to the need for greater understanding of geography by primary teachers at Key Stage 2 to level 5 and beyond. The book takes each of the attainment targets in turn, looks at the evidence for children's understanding and suggests appropriate classroom activities. There is a wealth of information gathered from British, American, Australian and German sources as well as the author's own research. Ideas are combined with reasons for putting them into practice.
Although structured around the National Curriculum, the book has wide international relevance and even non-specialists will find it enjoyable and stimulating.
