From Library Journal:
This is a very useful dictionary containing over 2900 definitions of horticultural terms, nearly half accompanied by line drawings. Oddly, pronunciations are not included. Bagust, a well-regarded British horticulturist and scholar, has tailored this book to the home gardener, but it will be useful in science reference collections as well, particularly since its only recent competitor, The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Botany (Oxford Univ. Pr., 1992) does not have much overlap. Several European garden terms are included, some of which are not used by Americans (e.g., faggot , "a small bundle of sticks"; Wain , "a wagon"; Sussex trug , "a basket"). With the proliferation in gardening literature, much of it British in origin, this dictionary will be quite useful to American readers.

From Booklist:
It's a good bet that individuals with horticultural tendencies will appreciate Bagust's clearly written resource, a compendium integrating scientific botanical terms with up-to-date gardening nomenclature and quaint vocabulary from other eras. More than 1,000 black-and-white line drawings provide visual support for Bagust's coherent descriptions, which extend to garden practices and a plethora of bewildering terminology. Use of this book could shed light on all sorts of topics heard discussed at the local plant nursery--for one thing, the secrets of double-digging a flower bed. And for those wishing to distinguish between laciniate or lanceolate foliage, Bagust clears the air. Alice Joyce
