About the Author
Marc A. Silver is Associate Professor of Medicine, Associate Medical Director of the Heart Failure/Heart Transplant Program and Director of the Loyola University Out-Patient Heart Failure Center at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.

Silver has written a compassionate, positive book for patients with heart failure on the challenges of living a quality lifestyle. He avoids technical jargon in this fairly basic explanation of what heart failure is, what can cause it, the levels of severity, and the importance of the patient's responsibility in maintaining his/her health program. Emphasizing the importance of a good doctor/patient relationship, Silver outlines what the patient can do to control his/her health through attitude, diet, medication, education, and exercise. He also discusses conventional and experimental therapies and in several chapters addresses specifically families and young heart patients. This is a very encouraging book, giving basic advice and positive motivation. An excellent choice for health collections.
