Reviews

Who would have thought that yet another compilation of antics by some of the funniest Christian writers and speakers could be so entertaining? With the accumulation of Christian humor books already in print, skeptics might be tempted to pass over this collection. That would be a mistake. Compilers Spangler and MacDonald have joined efforts before (She Who Laughs, Lasts!; Don't Stop Laughing Now!), but this endeavor is their funniest yet. Drawing from an assortment of professional entertainers in Christendom, this selection includes work from Patsy Clairmont, Becky Freeman, Chonda Pierce, Luci Swindoll and Barbara Johnson. Dave Meurer pens a humorous take on the biblical Sarah's possible thoughts when told she would conceive at such a late age. (Certainly, Sarah wonders, God wouldn't make a woman go through menopause twice!) Clairmont presents the novel idea of mass-marketing adult pacifiers in order to "cork" those who need to learn to keep their mouths shut, and Marilyn Meberg tells of an enjoyable evening spent with a good friend, a coloring book and a box of crayons. Despite the rollicking mood, many of the tales include subtle lessons about emulating Christ in the face of ongoing distractions and distresses. Although every story is entertaining, some readers may recognize a few sketches from the various authors' previous published works.
