This is an objective approach to Bible study that enables the reader to develop a consistent, step-by-step method that can be employed in the study of any scriptural passage.

Robert A. Traina is Thompson Professor of Biblical Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore KY. He holds the S.T.B. and S.T.M. degrees from Biblical Seminary in New York and the Ph.D. degree from Drew Uinversity. Dr. Traina has served on the Asbury seminary faculty since 1966 and held the post of dean from 1967 to 1975.
Inductive Bible study, a relatively new approach, is gaining the attention of serious theological students as well as laypeople. Inductive study compares related Bible texts in order to let the Bible interpret itself, rather than approaching Scripture with pre-determined notions of what it will say. Dr. Traina's Methodical Bible Study was not intended to be the last word in inductive Bible study; but since its first publication in 1952, it has become a foundational text in this field. Christian colleges and seminaries have made it required reading for beginning Bible students, while many churches have used it for their lay Bible study groups. This book has now gone through several printings and its reputation continues to grow. Methodical Bible Study fills a long-standing need for a simple, practical textbook in hermeneutics. It encourages the serious Bible student to practice the best kind of hermeneutic, which allows the Word of God to speak for itself.
