Linda Sattgast considers writing her joy. She is the author of more than 20 children's picture books, including the Gold Medallion award-winning The Rhyme Bible. She is a homemaker and homeschooler who lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and two children.
Knowing how much children delight in the sounds of rhymed words and phrases, Sattgast casts selections from the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament into rhyming language aimed at helping children to remember each story's content as well as its religious message. For example, her version of why God commanded Noah to build the ark reads, in part: "God was very/ very sad,/ For all the people/ Were so bad./ They would cheat,/ And they would lie./ They would make their sisters cry." As for the conversion of Zaccheus in Luke 19, Sattgast writes: "But little Zaccheus/ Was changed that day./ All of the people/ Were happy to see/ That he wasn't the same/ As he used to be!" Goffe's comic strip-like watercolor illustrations accompany each rhymed story and feature smiling animals and wide-mouthed humans. Although Sattgast's rhymes are rather simplistic and uninspiring, many children ages 3-8 will find themselves repeating these stories.
