Every year the Beene family dreams of a Christmas feast, but every year they get the same old watery soup. The true meaning of Christmas is revealed in this touching picture book with poignant illustrations by Jan Spivey Gilchrist. While Mama is making the traditional Christmas soup her children wish for more. When Baby Fannie prays 'Bless our home with something more'--- and that 'more' turns out to be two hungry strangers to feed, it seems as if things can't get much worse. But the soup---a true feast for the hungry pair---is shared, and the Beene children learn a lesson about giving they won't soon forget. This tender story is sure to become a Christmas classic!

The Beene Family has few gifts around the Christmas tree. The children dream of a scrumptious Christmas dinner, but each year it is the same watery soup. They all hope for something really wonderful to happen and the youngest child, Fannie, keeps telling them a miracle is on its way. This miracle, as it turns out, is a hungry homeless woman and a young boy who show up at their door. Their faith-filled mother gives these two hungry people their soup. The children are amazed when the strangers' faces transform from cold and sad to grateful and full of love. The true spirit of Christmas is realized.
Phyllis Dooley is a Christian poet and playwright. She lives in Memphis, Tennessee with her daughter.
