About the Authors

Tiania Haneline and Scarlett Gray Smith make up one of TikTok's most positive (and self-love-centric) mother/daughter duos. The East Coast-based pair is well-known for their sweet affirmation videos, with their most viral moments attracting the attention of Good Morning America, POPSUGAR, USA Today and more. Growing up in an affirming household herself, Tiania was determined to pass the same values onto Scarlett and her two sons, Walker and Reice. She began repeating affirmations with Scarlett while doing her hair every morning, teaching her to embrace the beauty of her skin, curls, kindness and every trait in between. With the power of TikTok, Tiania and Scarlett are spreading that joy and self-love to an audience of more than four million.

Stephanie Dehennin is an illustrator based in Antwerp, Belgium. After studying illustration at Saint Lukas in Ghent, she—somewhat unplanned—became a freelance art director in the magazine world, but never stopped drawing and painting. The love for illustration was too strong to ignore, so she decided to dedicate the rest of her career to drawing and painting for children. Stephanie reveres Hayao Miyazaki, Tim Burton, and Dr Seuss, and has a mild obsession for flying contraptions, robots, and excessively large machinery.

K-Gr 2—This is a great introduction to using daily affirmations to replace negative thoughts and doubts with positive ones. The main character is Scarlett Gray, a five-year-old TikTok star, whose most popular video is of her saying affirmations while her mother does her hair. The book opens on her family, her mother doing her hair while she recites her daily affirmations, and then follows Scarlett through her day as she has moments of doubt and negativity. In each relatable moment (riding a bicycle without training wheels for the first time, going to dance class, not wanting to wait her turn to play a video game), Scarlett remembers her affirmations and repeats them to help her through each situation. The story ends with a list of statements readers can use for their own positive journeys. Dehennin's illustrations shine with vibrant colors, swirling banners showing the words, and detailed portraits of the family members and their emotions. VERDICT This is an excellent addition to all collections that clearly introduces how positive statements build confidence, self-worth, and harmony.—Heidi Dechief
