Introduction to Technical Writing:Process and Practice is designed to bridge the gap between a freshman English course in composition and the world of work. The students who need a bridge like this are sophomores, juniors, and seniors in a wide variety of technical majors-from agriculture and engineering to physics, forestry, nutrition, and computer science.. since a bridge must be anchored on solid ground at both ends, this book begins with analogies to problems and situations familiar to students and with a friendly, supportive tone. Then each chapter discusses a different writing task, giving exmples of both student and professional documents and discussing how working writers proceeed in solving writing problems. This book is divided into three parts. The eight chapters in Part 1 spell out a general process that both students and professionals can use to write technical and scientific documents. Part 2 has five chpters that explore a variety of tools and techiques vital to most kind of technical writing. Part 3 covers ten major forms into which most technical writing is case, with 'form' meaning the way a document looks on the page based on organization and layout.
