Quinlan begins his survey of actresses who specialized in wicked roles with terse career summaries and filmographies of the 21 women from Theda Bara and Bette Davis to Arlene Dahl and Joan Collins whom he claims form a pantheon of seductresses, schemers, and double-crossers. Subsequent chapters, each organized by duplicitous type, fill in the lesser sirens, psychos, and gun molls; Disney villainesses get a chapter of their own. Though there's little reflection in Quinlan's style, his accurate film synopses, particularly of B-movies, and well-chosen stills make this a valuable title for hardcore film buffs as they check late-night TV listings.
