DANIEL J. CANARY (Ph.D., University of Southern California) is the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University. A current member of 10 editorial boards, his research interests include relational maintenance, interpersonal conflict management, sex differences, as well as interpersonal goals. His research has appeared in several academic journals that publish studies on interpersonal communication. He is serving a four year term as President of the Western States Communication Association and is a former President of the International Network on Personal Relationships.
MICHAEL J. CODY (Ph.D., Michigan State University) is Professor at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California. He is the author of six books, more than 20 book chapters and over 40 articles published in journals such as Communication Quarterly, Communication Education, and the Journal of Health Communication. Professor Cody is interested in ÒtaxonomiesÓ of messages in either Òcompliance gainingÓ (seeking one's goals) or in ÒaccountsÓ (offering explanations for one's actions) when individuals pursue goals in Òreal lifeÓ contexts such as flirting, relational dissolution, sales encounters, traffic court, child custody mediations, and in health maintenance contexts. Professor Cody is currently involved in a number of projects using entertainment as a means to educate viewers, including educating viewers about breast cancer and infectious diseases.
VALERIE L. MANUSOV (Ph.D., University of Southern California) is Professor of Communication at the University of Washington. Her primary research interest focuses on the interpretation of nonverbal cues, but she also work on an array of topics on interpersonal communication processes. Her recent publications include The Sage Handbook of Nonverbal Communication, co-edited with Miles Patterson, and The Sourcebook of Nonverbal Behavior. Her work has been published in respected journals including Human Communication Research and The Journal of Nonverbal Behavior among others. She was also the co-founder of the Nonverbal Communication Division of the National Communication Association and currently serves as the Division Chair.
