Kremlin plotters, determined to knock out the only working American surveillance satellite and replace it with their own, plant their master operative, Coloniel Guchkov, in the United States to neutralize satellite computers. British agent David Caine, assigned to the Miami espionage world, uncovers the Soviet threat and quickly becomes a target for annihilation. Red Center gets off to a slow start with the introduction of lots of characters and subplots, all seemingly competing for the reader's attention. But halfway through the book Caine emerges as a true hero, bringing everything into sharp focus as he takes charge for the exciting ride to the conclusion.
