Kindergarten-Grade 2-- Huff's 30-line poem, first published in 1957, is a slight celebration of the greatness of libraries. It is politically correct doggerel--"You cannot tell its magic/ by the way the building looks,/ but there's wonderment within it--/ the wonderment of books"--but still not worth purchasing as an individual book. Van Rynbach's watercolors realistically depict the action suggested in each part of the poem. "There is no frigate like a book" has been overused, but at least it was once an original image.
