And, as good poets do, he raises questions, even in these brief poems, about the very essence of things ("Why is there more /behind a door /than there is /before. . . ?"). This small gem of a book should take its place alongside Valerie Worth's collections of Small Poems (Farrar, 1985) and Judith Thurman's Flashlight & Other Poems (Atheneum, 1976) as an intriguing introduction for young readers to the magic inherent in brief artful arrangements of words.
