Synopsis

In 1982, the amerian scholar Charles Hapgood made an astonishing claim to a young librarian. Rand Flem-Ath - that civilizaiton was almost a hundred thousand years old, and that he had the evidence to prove it. But before he could substantiate these remarkable assetions. Hapgood was tragically killed in a car crash. Together with fellow author Colin Wilson, Flem-Ath set out to track down the truth behind the scholar's statements. Their study of the world's most sacred sites - Stonehence, The Great Pyramids. Machu Picchu and many others - led them to an amazing discovery. Far from being built by local people for local resonas. These monuments formed a powerful and undeniable geometrical pattern. This in turn implied the existence of an ancient advanced civilization. One that existed before the flood that destroyed atlantis. And whose knowledge of the world was far wider than had previously been thought possible. The Atlantis blueprint deciphers this remarkable code and the reasons behind it: The attempt by scientist from Atlantis to preserve a legacy of their civilization. It shows how this knowledge was periodially lost and rediscovered. First by an unknown people who may have been centered in Lebanon and then by the Knights Templar. A study that stretches from Tiahuanaco to Ancient Egypt to Chine, taking in such mysteries as the Libyan desert glass and the extraordinary nineveh number. It challenges our preceptions of humanity and presents its argument with enormous persuasiveness-namely that our civilization is not the first to occupy the planet, nor is it likely to be the last.

From the Inside Flap

CAN ARCHAEOLOGY'S GREATEST MYSTERIES
BE TRACED BACK TO THE LOST
CIVILIZATION OF ATLANTIS?
The Great Pyramid. Stonehenge. Machu Picchu. For centuries, these and other sacred sites have attracted pilgrims, scholars, and adventurers drawn by the possibility that their true spiritual and technological secrets remain hidden. Who could have built these elaborate monuments? How did they do it? And what were their incomprehensible efforts and sacrifices designed to accomplish?
Now comes a revolutionary theory that connects these mysteries to reveal a hidden global pattern--the ancient work of an advanced civilization whose warnings of planetary cataclysm now reverberate across one hundred millennia. Here is startling evidence of an intelligent society dating back as much as 100,000 years--one that sailed the oceans of the world, building monuments to preserve and communicate its remarkable wisdom.
The Atlantis Blueprint is the authors' term for a complex network of connections between these sacred sites that trace back to Atlantis: a sophisticated maritime society that charted the globe from its home base in Antarctica...until it was obliterated by devastating global changes it anticipated but could not escape. Opening up a Pandora's box of ancient mysteries, lost worlds, and millennial riddles, The Atlantis Blueprint is a story as controversial, fascinating, dangerous--and inspiring--as any ever told.

From the Back Cover

In November 1982, Professor Charles Hapgood wrote to a young correspondent,
Rand Flem-Ath, adding an amazing postscript to his life's work on ancient civilizations:

"There is evidence that the last displacement of the crust moved both American continents southward about 30 degrees, and absolutely devastated life and civilization on them. . . .

"Furthermore, in recent exciting discoveries I believe I have convincing evidence of a whole cycle of civilization in America and Antarctica, suggesting advanced levels of science that may go back 100,000 years...."

The idea was revolutionary. And it came from a man who had collaborated with Albert Einstein on the theory of earth crust displacement. Hapgood had discovered maps of
sub-glacial Antarctica and he was on a secret quest for Atlantis. He was now telling Rand that civilization was 100,000 years old.

Rand Flem-Ath replied immediately, asking for some hint of Hapgood's reasons for this amazing assertion. For weeks there was no reply, then his letter was returned, stamped "deceased."

Hapgood's last letter led Flem-Ath to his own quest for the origin of science and civilization, of which this book tells the story....

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Illustrated (illustrator). In June 1990, Egyptologist John West accompanied geologist Robert Schoch to Cairo, to take a closer look at the Sphinx. For almost two decades, West had been arguing that the erosion of the Sphinx revealed that it had been weathered by rain rather than windblown sand. If that was true, then the Sphinx had to be thousands of years older than Egyptologists believe - after all, Egypt has had no rain in thousands of years. They concluded that the Sphinx dates back to 7000 BC - a time when in fact there was not supposed to be any civilization anywhere in the world - and has been built by the survivors of the vanished civilization which Plato called Atlantis. Rand Flem-Ath and Colin Wilson's book crosses continents, arguing that this earlier civilization did exist but was destroyed around 9600 BC. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. Seller Inventory # GOR001576462
