Synopsis
Flora Parker is sassy and stylish with a big mouth and a tendency to act before she thinks, which is how she ends up getting drunk and on the front of a newspaper in her Wonderbra. Filled with self-loathing, she retreats to her aunt's house in the country where she finds an overbearing uncle, a farm on the brink of bankruptcy, a child who won't come out of the airing cupboard and a precocious ten-year-old. But instead of running away, she itches to put it right - especially when the farmer next door announces a bet: he will give his farm and glorious farmhouse to whichever of his handsome nephews finds a wife by Michaelmas. So Flo takes up the matchmaking. Meanwhile she falls in love - with a way of life that is muddy, smelly and under threat. But is she prepared to put her head on the altar to keep it?

About the Author
Maeve Haran is an Oxford law graduate and former television producer who has written contemporary and historical novels that have sold around the world. Her books include "The Lady and the Poet "and "The Painted Lady." She lives with her family in north London.
Marie McCarthy has been Associate Professor in the School of Music at the University of Maryland since 1995. She has edited two colloquia volumes and has contributed chapters to several books.
