Synopsis

A splint, which is an orthopaedic device for immobilisation, restraint, or support of any part of the body, is an important rehabilitation tool used by a variety of health care professionals, especially occupational therapists. Approximately ninety-five percent of the splints utilised in OT practice are hand splints. In addition, physiotherapists who work with hand-injured patients must be knowledgeable about designing, constructing and fitting splints.

Introduction to Splinting 2/e is a combination workbook/textbook which shows the fine detail of splinting. It provides the reader with the fundamental basisof theory and skills needed to design and fabricate splints as a therapist. The reader is challenged with comprehension quizzes, laboratory exercises and case studies, all designed to foster critical thinking and develop problem-solving skills. After completing this book (including the exercises) the reader should be able to construct basic splints used in general practice making it suitable for both students and therapists who need to develop their basic splinting skills.
