Synopsis

This friendly intro to the ins, outs, and uploads of the Internet offers actors a new vehicle for advancing their careers. From his introduction, to the accompanying CD-ROM, Kozlowski shows actors:

  • how to get online and search for specific Web sites
  • what the best Web sites are for actors, including colleges and training centers, newsgroups for actors, and informational sites about plays, books, and acting
  • how to build a Web page of your own, with detailed explanations of what you have to do to create your presence on the Web.
The Actor's Guide to the Internet is the definitive reference guide for actors who wish to explore the countless opportunities awaiting them in cyberspace. This is truly the actor's best road map for successfully maneuvering the information superhighway!

Reviews

This complete resource for actors wanting to get online includes information about the web, newsgroups, and creating web pages and also serves as a guide to Internet sites. It is not necessarily a good book for Internet novices; Kozlowski uses a great deal of jargon, which could leave them overwhelmed even though an extensive glossary of terms is included. But for readers who manage to get through the introductory pages, this book offers something other resources do not always have--detailed annotations of a plethora of web sites for actors, ranging from educational opportunities to casting calls. Kozlowski, an improvisational actor/director and regular contributor to Perform Ink (a newspaper for Chicago performers), discusses each site specifically in terms of actors' needs. This book is accompanied by a CD-ROM containing Netscape Communicator 4.5 along with shareware evaluation editions of other programs--useless to libraries, unfortuantely, as there is a user time limit of 30 days. Recommended for public and academic theater reference collections.
