The Guide on the Side, also known as the G-O-T-S or GOTS, is no ordinary teacher's manual. It is a handbook designed to support research-based literacy instruction. The GOTS does not include weekly lessons. Instead, it provides a framework of routines and example activities that utilize best practices. The GOTS framework include: Information to get you started; Strategies and routines for teaching; Charts and Other useful things. You can use the GOTS to plan, to learn and to teach. You can use the Guide on the Side with the Reading Street for the Guided Reading Teacher, or with your own resources. The GOTS allows you to create instruction specific to your students' needs. You choose the tests, the examples, and the connections for each lesson, making GOTS routines meaningful to your students. Includes charts "Pacing" for the Grade 4 Texas Teacher that shows the instructional sequence from Scott Foresman Reading Street and the TEKS that correspond to each skill. You can use this pacing guide as is to ensure you're following a comprehensive scope and sequence, or you can adjust the sequence to match your school/district focus calendar, curriculum map, or testing schedule.
