The story deals ostensibly with the personal interactions of a ship's crew. It is set in the West Indies in the time of colonization and the taking of slaves. The `crew' is made up of Priest, Surgeon, Carpenter, Boatswain.Commandant, and Steward. They each have something to say about their voyages. Some actual, some philosophical.UNillustrated. Cond : Paper wrapper is white with black lettering. Front cover illustration shows the author - who may be the Commandant disguised - pealing at least two masks off his face. Volume is tight, and bright, if a bit yellowed. No names, marks, creases, nor tears. Excellent reading copy !! Quote (p. 33) : " The men moved about him like an obstacle that gave no trouble for the moment.
