The Second Jungle Book continues the classic Mowgli stories and poems of the first Jungle Book, but unlike the previous volume includes outstanding stories that explore themes outside the life of jungle creatures. This volume also includes as an appendix "In the Rukh," the first Mowgli story to be published.

Nobel prize-winning writer Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay, India, but returned with his parents to England at the age of five. Influenced by experiences in both India and England, Kipling s stories celebrate British imperialism and the experience of the British soldier in India. Amongst Kipling s best-known works are The Jungle Book, Just So Stories, and the poems Mandalay and Gunga Din. Kipling was the first English-language writer to receive the Nobel prize for literature (1907) and was amongst the youngest to receive the award. Kipling died in 1936 and is interred in Poets Corner in Westminster Abbey.
''It would take too long to enumerate even half of the marvelous touches by which the creatures miscalled dumb are made to live for us by Rudyard Kipling . . . The saddest words of this volume are those with which he closes, 'And this is the last of the Mowgli stories!' '' --Vogue

Soft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. The Second Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling is a collection of stories that continue the adventures of Mowgli, the "man-cub" raised by wolves in the jungle, as well as other characters from The Jungle Book. This sequel features tales that explore themes of loyalty, survival, and the relationship between humans and animals. In addition to Mowgli's story, the book includes adventures of animals like the loyal bear Baloo and the cunning tiger Shere Khan. The stories are rich with Kipling's vivid descriptions and moral lessons, delving into the laws of the jungle and the challenges Mowgli faces as he grows older and tries to navigate the human world. Through these tales, Kipling expands on the ideas introduced in the first book, offering readers a deeper connection to the jungle's complex ecosystem and the creatures within it.
