Liza Cody was born in London. She attended the City and Guilds of London Art School and the Royal Academy School of Art. She managed to support herself as a painter before becoming a film studio technician. Before turning to crime writing she also worked as a furniture-maker, a photographer, a graphic designer and an assistant at Madame Tussauds.
Private investigator Anna Lee, the British equivalent of V.I. Warshawski, finds herself kidnapped as she pursues an apparently routine child custody case. Narrator Juliet Prague's years of drama training enable her to bring this mystery to life. She effortlessly metamorphoses into the dozens of characters in the story, including innocent and precocious teenagers, brutal thugs, smarmy mobsters, frantic parents, bumbling detectives, psycho secretary and even an idiosyncratic poet. Her vocalizations offer richness of dialect, variation of tempo and subtleties of emotional undertone. Prague's crisp narrative style moves the story quickly through its many points of view. Her performance is clearly the star of the show. R.P.L. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
