Gr 2-4–Cosmo, a witch-cat, is a proud new big brother. Before he and his parents know what's happening, though, the mischievous kittens sneak into a witch's laboratory and are turned into frogs. The plot twists and turns from here; a ridiculously large cast leaves readers wondering whether characters are good, evil, cat, frog, human, witch, or otherwise. Elements such as magic sneezes and the Good Witches' Society are clever, but clunky language, excessive length, and the attempted drowning of a kitten are difficult to overcome.
