PreSchool-Grade 1 This cozy pair of simple stories stars anthropomorphic animals as playmates for a little boy and a little girl. The boy and his desired pig and the girl and the sheep that she wants are all the same size, and all behave like typical children. Both children share stories with their animal pals and snuggle up with them in bed at night. The watercolor illustrations of round-faced, dot-eyed, pink-cheeked children and plump animals are done with a few expressive, effective, action-filled lines. Their appeal is enhanced by warm color tones and a gentle sense of humor. The comfortable familiarity of everyday children's activities is livened by the surprise element of the unusual companions.
