About the Author

Roman Solchanyk is a specialist on Soviet nationality affairs at the RFE/RL Research Institute in Munich. He completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Virginia and taught Russian history and Soviet politics at Rutgers University. He has published widely in scholarly journals and symposia on East European history and Soviet nationality problems.
