Synopsis
This is a collection of essays on Aquinas and Wittgenstein. It is inspired by, and dedicated to the memory of Victor Preller, whose interpretations of these figures helped to prepare the ground for recent discussions of religious language, knowledge of God, the role of grace in human life, and the ethical significance of virtue. This book's main purpose is to advance our understanding of the issues on which texts like "Summa Theologiae" and the "Philosophical Investigations" have a bearing.

About the Author
Jeffrey Stout is professor of religion at Princeton University. His books include "Ethics After Babel" and "Democracy and Tradition" (both Princeton). He is past president of the American Academy of Religion and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Robert MacSwain is Assistant Professor in Theology and Christian Ethics, the School of Theology, University of the South, Tennessee. He is the co-editor, with Jeffrey Stout, of Grammar and Grace (2004), and, with Ann Loades, of The Truth-Seeking Heart (2006).

Review
It is easy to read with little academic jargon or pedantic footnotes and there is a helpful glossary of terms. The title and sub-title are well chosen. As Saint Paul told the Corinthians, there are varieties of gifts but the same spirit, varieties of services but the same Lord, varieties of activities but the same God who activates all of them in everyone.
