Review

"Managing Scarcity looks the spectre of rationing right in the eye and holds a steadfast, daring gaze. And what's more, contrary to the common ambivalent spiel, it speaks in a language that both the lay reader and the health care specialist will understand...a brave book: fearlessly invading the theoretical minefield and blitzingany misconceptions that come into view, it lays the rationing cards firmly on the table." - British Journal of health care Management "...an extremely valuable addition to the literature on resource allocation in the NHS." - Sociology of Health &Illness "...a useful resource to have on one's bookshelf." - Health Matters "It is a genuine pleasure to read such a lucid, research-based account of an issue that (perhaps) over-dominates the health debate. That it is also likely to be seized upon by undergraduate readers merely adds to its appeal." - Social Policy "The general reader willnot find a better introductory exposition of the rationing process and the arguments which surround it than this one. It is clear and concise, and (most importantly) treats an obviously emotive subject with great rationality and objectivity." - Political Studies
