This book aims to provide students on technical and national certificate courses with an introduction to good practice in the design of jigs and fixtures. The basic requirements in the design of jigs and fixtures are outlined in the first chapter, followed by a brief discussion of planning. More detailed accounts of the design of locators and clamping devices are followed by chapters on drill jigs, milling fixtures, turning, grinding, and broaching fixtures, and indexing jigs and fixtures. Form tool design and calucations are clearly explained, and standard gauges as used on the majority of ordinary production components are described. The book concludes with a brief discussion of press tools, followed by a selection of exercises. In this new edition, SI units have been used throughout, and the lists of relevant British Standards have been brought up to date.
