A much-loved classic with a great new cover from the creators of Kipper and Percy the Park Keeper. Mick Inkpen is the libraries' ninth most borrowed author. Are you ready for the school trip? There'll be dinosaur bones and giant blue whales, buttons to press, lunches to swap and money to spend. The coach is waiting to go. But where is Matthew Tibbs? 'The charmingly comical Inkpen, as always, hits the spot.' Guardian 'Nick Butterworth is one of the best picture book writers alive.' Independent

Mick Inkpen is one of the top-selling picture book artists and writers in the world. The Kipper and Wibbly Pig stories have millions of readers worldwide. He is the winner of the British Book Award for the best illustrated book, for Lullabyhullaballoo, and the Children's Book Award for Threadbear. He's also been shortlisted for the Smarties Award three times. In addition to this, Kipper won a BAFTA for best animated children's film in 1998. After leaving school Nick Butterworth went to work as a typographic designer and formed a partnership with Mick Inkpen. As well as writing and illustrating he enjoys a freelance career in design and illustrations. He has over forty children's books to his name and is perhaps best known for Percy the Park Keeper. Albert Le Blanc was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal.
Kindergarten-Grade 2-- Picture book audiences can accompany Mrs. Jefferson's class on a mild-mannered romp through a natural history museum. All the events in this soup to nuts story of a day in the city ring true, from the tardy class member who keeps everyone waiting to the queasy kid sitting alone on the bus with his trusty plastic bag. Although nothing out of the ordinary happens, this is pleasant fare for the story hour crowd. The pastel watercolors depict a multiethnic group, but the balloon-shaped faces with protruding ears make all the youngsters look alike except for skin color and hairstyles. The bored museum guard and the weary, out-of-patience teacher may seem funny only to adults. However, the carnivorous dinosaur skeleton that looks hungry enough to gobble up the class dawdler strikes just the right note. Cohen's Lost in the Museum (Greenwillow, 1979) has more substance and a more compelling plot than this series of casual vignettes. Both could be used with Brown's Visiting the Art Museum (Dutton, 1986) to prepare primary-grade students for a field trip. --Martha Rosen, Edgewood School, Scarsdale, NY
