The chapters are arranged in four sections. The first focuses on the practices of teachers and the experience of learners, the next offers new ways of thinking about the mathematics taught in schools. Then several writers examine the major constraints on what is taught from within the mathematics curriculum and in the final section there are six pieces which explore issues which are present behind any mathematics teacher's actions.
