Paul Kuo is Chief of Transplantation and Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina. Rebecca Schroeder is Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesia at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington. Lynt Johnson is Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, Chief of the Division of Transplant Surgery and Director of Hepatobiliary Surgery at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington.

This is a very necessary book. As the field of surgery becomes more genralised, the people involved in the care of the transplant patient are now coming from a variety of specialities. They need to be adept in all areas of transplantation. As far a I know, there is not one source for this information and I am sure that a book like the one described would be quite useful.

The book as a whole will be of value to medical students and junior medical staff working in a transplant unit as well as to family doctors who find themselves caring for patiens before and after transplantation. More senior staff in a transplant unit may find this to be a useful source of information about topics outside their sphere of practice.
