Synopsis

By the 1700s, the Aborigine people have lived in harmony with the land in Australia for sixty thousand years. But now, ghost-ships are arriving, their very existence is threatened by a terrifying white invasion. When Jonathan Cadwallader leaves Cornwall to sail on the Endeavour, he leaves behind his sweetheart, Susan Penhalligan . . . That is, until an act of brutality reunites them in the raw and unforgiving penal colony of New South Wales.Billy Penhalligan has survived transportation and clings to the promise of a new beginning. But there will be more suffering before he or his fellow convicts can regard Australia as home . . . .A sweeping tale of discovery, love and hardship in the sixteenth century which will bring emergent Australia and all its inhabitants - new and old - to life.

About the Author

Tamara McKinley was born and raised in Australia. Adopted by her grandmother, she was eventually brought to England to finish her education. Tamara McKinley lives on the south coast of England, and writes full-time, but travels back to Australia frequently to visit her eldest son and do research for her books. She is the author of "Windflowers", "Matilda's Last Waltz" and "Jacaranda Vines."

Peter has been a working actor for over thirty years. In theatre he has played a wide range of roles, including rep all around the UK, and an active TV and film career. He has often chosen jobs involving travel. Most importantly (to him), Peter enjoyed a spell on the BBC Radio Rep. That all led to audiobooks, and his only regret about this is that he doesn't usually travel far to do it!

Review

'Lush with intense descriptions of nature and tense drama.' USA Publisher's Weekly on MATILDA'S LAST WALTZ 'A multi-generational saga in the vein of THE THORNBIRDS... much enjoyed... Good, old-fashioned story-telling at its best' The Bookseller on MATILDA'S LAST WALTZ 'The plot has depth and pace' The Lady on JACARANDA VINES 'Will keep you reading happily all day. Relax and enjoy.' Women's Weekly on WINDFLOWERS 'An epic, gripping, tautly plotted novel with a final court-room twist worthy of John Grisham.' Time Out on SUMMER LIGHTNING
