The Life Of The Baron De Renty; Or, Perfection In The World Exemplified by Gaston Jean B. Renty. This religious biography chronicles the life of the 17th-century nobleman Baron de Renty, a model of sanctity for living in the world. Based on Saint-Jure’s detailed Life and other sources, the work traces his inner life, ascetic practices, and extraordinary charity. It opens with the Sacred Infancy devotion, propagated by the Carmelite Marguerite du Saint-Sacrement, and follows De Renty from his early years, through marriage and military service, to two significant conversions. At its core is the union with Christ as the decisive source of sanctity, his detachment from wealth, and his zeal for souls—founding charitable confraternities, aiding prisoners, healing the sick, teaching trades to the poor, and supporting missions. The narrative also documents his spiritual direction of laypeople, especially Marguerite of Beaune, his consecration to the Infant Jesus, and his ascent into mystical prayer and the life of the Trinity. He dies in 1649, leaving a lasting exemplar of Evangelical perfection in the world.
